Highland Dancers are usually “whirling an ‘a birling”, spinning and twirling, moving in circles around each other, weaving in and out.
When I think of highland dancing and all those lessons we used to have at school, practising our fancy footwork and crowd-pleasing moves for the “end of year” dances, I don’t remember dancing in lines at all. That’s why this picture, to me at least, seems a little odd. (Although, obviously, it is choreographed for the show…)
