‘N NASIE WAT WIL

EN ‘NASIE WAT WERK

SAL DIE VRUG IN SY

NAKROOS PLUK

Roughly translates to:

A nation that will be

and a nation that will work

Shall harvest the seeds

from the fruit (of their labour)

We visited Loskop Dam wall and witnessed for ourselves this graffitied monument, which was erected in memory to all those who constructed the dam wall in 1939.  I’m not entirely sure why an oversized hand was chosen for this – in the generally accepted “halt” gesture.

Even though the sentiment is in written in Afrikaans, it is a universally accepted philosophy – and yet, here it stands – disrespected.

I can’t help but think of the current “disrespect” being shown in the UK, by mobs of hooligan teenagers and more shockingly, younger kids.

To them I say “STOP!”
