Cinnyris talatala or Nectarinia talatala

Being completely happy with photographing the Coral Tree alone, I was more than pleasantly surprised and pleased when this little White-breasted Sunbird popped along for a quick visit.

And I mean quick!

He was flitting around quite a bit – often hiding from my view behind the bright red flowers.  I did manage to catch him a couple of times – although the exposure leaves a lot to be desired.

The Coral Tree appears to be a favourite for the sunbirds; their long, thin beaks can reach the nectar at the base of the tubular petals.  If the petals haven’t opened up – they quite simply puncture a hole and get down to business unhindered 🙂
