Bygones Be Gone

It has been a while since I was last in Bristol.  Well, 16 years have passed, if I have to be honest about it.  I was based there for work, for about a year, before my travels and studies took me to the furthest reaches of the African Continent.

So with camera in hand, and despite working – only a few frames on film to spare (still paying off student debts 😉 ) I went to explore parts of my new home town.

Canons Marsh Railway Goods Sheds opened in 1906.  I have no idea when they fell into disuse, but in 1995 it was certainly looking abandoned.  The building is a Grade II Listed building, which basically means it cannot be demolished.  It was transformed in 2000, and now houses Explore @ Bristol.

    1. Hi Lisa – I absolutely agree. There are layers of interest in the old version, along with all the flaking layers of paint! Much more texture and visual appeal to it. On the other hand, it is good that the building has been renovated and put to good use… An exploration and education centre – I can’t complain!

    1. Hi Debra, I guess it would have been quite a challenge to renovate this sympathetically; all around this building are quite modern installations. I still prefer the old look too 🙂

  1. I like the look of the old buiding, shame it had to be renovated but on the other hand, at least it will be looked after by it’s new owners and won’t just be left to crumble on its own.

Been there? Done that? Seen it? tell!
